Designed for braking railway wagons on classification hump yards and downhill (retardation) tracks, as well as for securing stationary wagons in accordance with applicable railway transport regulations.
The brake shoe eliminates wheelset sliding (wheel skidding) and prevents thermomechanical damage to the wheel tread surface.

Sliding of the braked wheel on the contact surfaces of the support pads ensures elimination of wheel slip of the opposite wheel running on the rail, thereby preventing thermomechanical damage to its tread surface.
Prevention of thermomechanical damage to the tread surface of the braked wheel, which otherwise would require re-profiling (re-turning) of the tread surfaces of both wheels of the affected wheelset.
